Event Details

Flores de Mayo 2026 returns across the Philippines as communities gather throughout May to honor the Virgin Mary through prayer, flower offerings, and long standing traditions. Often called a “garden of faith,” this devotion dates back to the 1800s, when Spanish missionaries introduced the practice of offering flowers and rosaries to Mary while reflecting on her virtues. Churches, chapels, and neighborhoods across the country take part in this month long celebration.

The biggest highlight comes at the end of May through the Santacruzan, a colorful religious pageant that reenacts Queen Helena’s search for the Holy Cross. The procession features beautifully dressed participants portraying important figures such as Reyna Elena, often accompanied by a young boy representing Emperor Constantine, along with traditional roles like Reyna Fe, Reyna Justicia, and Reyna Sentenciada. Each figure carries symbolic meaning tied to faith, virtue, and devotion.

The celebration usually ends with the Tapusan, where communities hold grand processions followed by a joyful salo salo with family, friends, and neighbors. While traditions may vary from one town to another, Flores de Mayo remains one of the country’s most cherished religious celebrations that brings together faith, culture, and community spirit every year.
