Event Details
The Giant Lantern Festival 2026 returns to Robinsons Starmills in San Fernando, Pampanga, with its much anticipated competition set for December 19, 2026. The event is the centerpiece of the cityโs Christmas season, with the 100 day countdown officially launched on September 10. Known for its enormous illuminated parols, the festival brings together participating Fernandino barangays in a showcase of creativity, craftsmanship, and Christmas spirit.
The competing lanterns can reach around 20 feet in size and feature thousands of colored bulbs that light up in carefully timed patterns to music. Much of the spectacle comes from the traditional hand turned metal rotors that help create the lanternsโ changing designs. Behind every giant parol is a multi month effort involving local teams and craftsmen, with each participating barangay working together to build and prepare its entry. The festival is headed by Executive Committee Honorary Chairperson Mayor Vilma Caluag and Chairperson Ar. Janine Canda.
The celebration does not end with the main showdown, as exhibition nights allow visitors to see the giant lanterns illuminated on succeeding evenings. Trade fairs, food stalls, and local tourism promotions also add more reasons to spend time at the venue while the cityโs working committees showcase products and destinations from San Fernando. A unique part of the experience is seeing the lanterns up close after learning how much community effort goes into building them, giving the dazzling Christmas display a strong connection to the people and craftsmanship of Fernandino communities.
