Higantes Festival 2026 returns to Angono, Rizal, known as the Art Capital of the Philippines, with its famous giant papier mâché figures taking over the streets. Festival and grand parade kickoff activities begin on November 15, while the main celebration of the Feast of San Clemente and Higantes Parade takes place on November 22 and 23. The towering figures, often standing more than three meters tall with hands on their hips and proud expressions, are hard to miss and have become one of Angono’s most recognizable traditions.
The Higantes tradition has roots in the town’s history, with the giant puppets traditionally portrayed as a playful form of mockery toward Spanish era hacienda landlords. Today, the figures have become a colorful symbol of Angono’s creativity and folk art. The festival also features street dancing, marching bands, and the much anticipated water dousing, adding a playful atmosphere to the religious celebration as people join the fluvial and street procession honoring San Clemente.
The celebration is also closely tied to Angono’s strong artistic identity, with local schools and community groups taking part in preparations for the festival. Coordination meetings with the Angono Tourism Office are underway as the town gets ready for the 2026 festivities. For visitors, the festival offers more than a parade of giant figures, since walking through Angono during the celebration also gives you a chance to see the town’s murals, galleries, local artists, and the everyday creative culture that earned it its reputation as the country’s Art Capital.
